Community Guidelines
Last updated: December 2025
1. Introduction
These Community Guidelines are incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service and set forth the standards for acceptable conduct and content on Playdate. These Guidelines reflect and expand on the binding rules in our Terms of Service, providing detailed behavioral expectations for users. By using the Service, you agree to comply with these Guidelines in addition to the Terms of Service and our other policies.
These Guidelines apply to all users, content, and activities on Playdate, including events, profiles, communications, and any other use of the Service. Violations of these Guidelines may result in enforcement actions as described in Section 7 (Enforcement) and in our Terms of Service, including Section 2.2 (Modification, Suspension, and Termination of Your Account) and Section 4.1 (Our Policies, Guidelines, and Additional Terms).
2. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to engage in the following prohibited conduct or to post, share, or facilitate the following prohibited content:
2.1 Harassment, Abuse, and Discrimination
Consent: Consent means welcomed communications and actions to engage with a member. You must obtain consent before engaging with others in ways that may be unwelcome. When in doubt, ask permission. Non‑consensual engagement is strictly prohibited.
You may not:
-
Harass, abuse, threaten, or intimidate other users, including through unwanted contact, stalking, bullying, or abusive behavior
- Harassment includes persistent or non-consensual contact from another user
- Examples: Repeatedly messaging someone after they've asked you to stop, following someone's activity to monitor them, or sending threatening messages
-
Make threats, explicit or implicit, against other users
- This includes both direct threats and implicit threats such as statements like "You'll be sorry" or "Watch your back" that reasonably suggest harm or intimidation
-
Engage in hate speech or post content that attacks, incites violence against, or promotes hatred toward individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other protected characteristics
-
Discriminate against others or restrict access to events or activities based on protected characteristics
-
Threaten or promote violence against people or animals
-
Manipulate or exploit others by using their insecurities, vulnerabilities, or personal circumstances for personal gain, financial benefit, or other advantages
- Examples: Pressuring someone to share personal information by exploiting their vulnerability, using someone's financial hardship to extract money or favors, or taking advantage of someone's emotional state to manipulate their decisions
-
Doxx or share private information about others without their explicit consent
- Private information includes, but is not limited to:
- Addresses and physical locations
- Phone numbers and email addresses
- Social security numbers
- Financial information (bank account numbers, credit card numbers)
- Passwords and account credentials
- Government identification numbers
- Other sensitive personal information
- Private information includes, but is not limited to:
-
Publicly shame or degrade private individuals through content that is intended to embarrass, humiliate, or harm their reputation
- Examples: Posting screenshots of private messages with intent to embarrass someone, sharing personal details about someone's private life to damage their reputation, or creating content specifically to mock or humiliate a private individual
2.2 Illegal and Dangerous Activities
You may not:
-
Coordinate, promote, or engage in illegal activities through the Service
-
Organize or promote activities that could cause physical harm, injury, or endangerment
-
Post content that promotes, encourages, or glorifies self-harm or suicide
-
Disseminate or promote harmful misinformation, including claims that have been scientifically disproven and that may pose a public or personal health risk
- Examples: False claims about vaccine safety that contradict established medical consensus, promoting unproven medical treatments that could cause harm, or spreading conspiracy theories about public health measures that have been debunked by scientific authorities
-
Violate applicable laws, regulations, or ordinances in connection with your use of the Service
2.3 Sexual and Inappropriate Content
Content that is inappropriate for a general audience includes explicit sexual material, graphic violence, content that would be rated R or higher, or material that is not suitable for users 16 and older.
You may not:
-
Post sexual content, including nudity, pornography, sexually explicit material, or content that is inappropriate for a general audience
-
Solicit sexual services or engage in sexual harassment
-
Post graphic violence, gore, or disturbing content that is not appropriate for the Service
2.4 Protection of Minors
Playdate has a zero-tolerance policy regarding child exploitation, child nudity of any kind, pornography involving minors, or anything that exploits, sexualizes, or fetishizes minors. Such content will be removed from the platform immediately, the uploader will be permanently banned, and we will report all instances of child exploitation to appropriate law enforcement authorities, including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) when applicable.
Playdate is intended for users who are at least 16 years old. Hosts must be at least 18 years old, as set forth in our Terms of Service. You may not:
-
Attempt to contact or meet with minors for inappropriate purposes (such as sexual exploitation, grooming, or other harmful activities)
-
Post content directed at minors that is inappropriate or harmful (such as sexual content, violent content, or content that could endanger minors)
-
Create events or activities that are not appropriate for the age restrictions applicable to the Service (such as events with age-inappropriate content or activities that would be unsafe for users 16-17)
3. Authenticity and Account Integrity
3.1 Authentic Identity
You must:
-
Use your authentic identity and not impersonate others or misrepresent your identity, affiliations, or qualifications
-
Maintain only one account per person or business, as set forth in our Terms of Service
-
Provide accurate information about yourself, your events, and your activities
-
Be transparent about your intentions and affiliations, including disclosing any commercial interests, business relationships, sponsorships, or affiliations that may be relevant to your use of the Service or your events
- This helps other users make informed decisions about events and interactions
- Examples: If you're hosting an event sponsored by a company, if you're promoting a business you own, or if you have a financial interest in an event or activity
3.2 Prohibited Practices
You may not:
-
Create fake accounts or use multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions or violate these Guidelines
-
Engage in scams, fraud, or deceptive practices to obtain financial gain, personal information, or other benefits
-
Send spam or unsolicited bulk messages or create events solely for commercial promotion without authorization
- Spam includes content that is irrelevant, impersonal, unsolicited, promotional, or repetitive
-
Manipulate or interfere with the Service, other users' accounts, or the integrity of the platform
-
Tamper with events by altering event details, descriptions, or settings in a way that changes the purpose or expectations of the event and misleads participants
- You may not convert or change events so that they no longer align with the expectations and purpose originally set by the host
- Example: Changing a "yoga class" event to a "political rally" without updating the description, or modifying event details after people have RSVP'd in a way that fundamentally changes what attendees expect
-
Post content or promote events on behalf of a user who has been banned or blocked from using Playdate
3.3 Respecting User Controls
You must respect the decisions of other users and hosts regarding blocks, bans, and access restrictions:
-
Respect block and ban decisions: If you are blocked by another user or banned from an event or by a host, you must accept and respect that decision. You may not attempt to contact the user or host through alternative means or accounts
-
No circumvention: Creating new accounts to circumvent a block, ban, or suspension is strictly prohibited and will result in permanent termination of all associated accounts
-
Appeals process: While you may appeal a decision by Playdate to suspend or terminate your account due to a policy violation, you must respect any final decision from Playdate. You may not create new accounts while an appeal is pending or after a final decision has been made
4. Intellectual Property
You must respect the intellectual property rights of others. You may not:
-
Post content you do not have the right to share, including content that infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
-
Use others' creative work without proper authorization or attribution
For detailed information about intellectual property, reporting infringement, and our procedures for handling copyright and trademark complaints, see our Copyright/DMCA Policy.
5. Content Standards
When creating events or posting content on Playdate, you must:
-
Provide accurate information about event details, locations, dates, times, and your identity
-
Keep content appropriate for a general audience and consistent with these Guidelines
- Content should be suitable for users 16 and older and should not include material that would be rated R or higher
-
Respect others' privacy and not share photos, information, or content about others without their explicit permission
-
Maintain event integrity: Events must accurately reflect their stated purpose and expectations. You may not alter events in ways that mislead participants about the nature, purpose, or content of the event
- Example: If you create an event described as a "networking meetup," you may not change it to a "sales pitch" without clearly updating the description and notifying attendees
You are responsible for all content you post, and content must comply with these Guidelines, our Terms of Service, and applicable laws.
5.1 Comments and Replies
Comments and replies are user-generated content and are subject to these Guidelines. In particular:
- Be respectful: Do not harass, threaten, demean, or target others in comments or replies.
- No spam: Do not post repetitive, promotional, or irrelevant comments.
- Protect privacy: Do not post personal data (yours or someone else’s) in comments (for example, phone numbers, addresses, or private messages).
Playdate may remove comments or take other enforcement actions as described in these Guidelines and our Terms of Service.
