Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 2025

This Privacy Policy explains how Playdate ("Playdate," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with the Playdate Service (as described in our Terms of Service). When we say "you" or "your," we mean any person using the Service, including anyone using it on behalf of an organization. This policy applies to the Playdate mobile application, related services we offer, and your communications with us.

About the summaries: For convenience, brief summaries appear at the start of several sections. These summaries are not a substitute for the full text.

1. Collection Of Information

Summary: We collect information you provide, limited device/app data, and content you create in Playdate. For information about ownership and licensing of content you create, see our Terms of Service, Section 3.1. We do not collect precise device location or run background location tracking. We do not use third‑party advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs, and the mobile app does not use web cookies.

We collect information when you:

1.1 Information You Provide To Us

We collect information that you provide directly to us. For example, when you create an account, set up or update your profile, use core features, upload images, or communicate with support.

Playdate is not designed to collect highly sensitive information such as medical records, financial account numbers, or government identifiers, and you should avoid sharing this type of information in your profile, events, or other content.

1.2 Information We Collect Automatically When You Use The Service

When you use the Service, we automatically collect limited information about your device and how you interact with the app. This helps us provide reliability, security, and core functionality (without precise location or ad/behavioral tracking).

Playdate does not collect biometric identifiers (such as facial recognition templates, fingerprints, or voiceprints) and does not collect your device’s precise GPS location or run background location tracking.

1.3 Information From Other Sources

We may receive information about you from third parties when you use features that involve them or when they are legally allowed to share it with us (for example, with your consent). Examples include:

We may analyze the information we collect to operate the Service and personalize in‑product features (for example, improving discovery and recommendations).

2. Use Of Information

Summary: We use information to operate, improve, protect, and personalize Playdate; to communicate with you about the Service; and to comply with law. We do not use your information for third‑party advertising or behavioral analytics.

2.1 Operating Our Service

We use information for business purposes related to operating Playdate, including to:

2.2 Communicating With You

We use information to:

2.3 Advertising And Other Uses

We do not include third‑party advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs in the app and do not use your information for cross‑context behavioral advertising. We may use information for other business purposes, such as to:

If a specific legal basis is required (for example, under GDPR/UK GDPR), the basis we rely on depends on the type of information and the context in which it is collected and used.

We process information to perform our contract with you under the Terms of Service—for example, to create your account, display your profile, enable events and RSVPs, provide core features, and send essential service updates.

We also process information where it is in our legitimate interests to do so and not overridden by your rights and freedoms—for example, to keep Playdate safe and reliable; prevent fraud and abuse; protect our network and information systems; respond to your communications; understand and improve features and performance; and support internal operations.

Where required, we process information with your consent—for example, when you allow camera or photo‑library access or choose to participate in optional surveys or beta programs. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings or as otherwise provided.

Sometimes your activity on Playdate may reveal sensitive information about you (for example, the types of events you create or attend, profile details you add, or content you post may suggest information about your health, religious beliefs, political opinions, or sexual orientation). Sharing such information is entirely voluntary. Depending on how you share it and the visibility of that content, our legal basis for processing may be that you have manifestly made it public or, where required, your explicit consent.

In some cases, we may also process information to comply with legal obligations or to protect your vital interests or those of another person—for example, when we believe processing is required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or audits.

3. Sharing Of Information

Summary: We share information to operate Playdate (e.g., with service providers), as required by law or to protect rights and safety, and in connection with corporate transactions. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not sell or share personal information for cross‑context behavioral advertising.

3.1 Through Our Service

We share some of the information we collect by displaying it in the app according to how Playdate works and any visibility controls you use.

Depending on how you use Playdate, other users may see your activity in context (for example, as an attendee of an event, or as the host of events you create). Information that is visible in the app can be viewed or captured by others, so consider what you share in your profile, events, and content and review your available visibility settings.

3.2 With Our Service Providers

We share information with trusted providers that process data for us under confidentiality and security obligations, for example:

Provider privacy policies:

3.3 With Analytics And Advertising Partners

We do not include third‑party advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs in the app and do not share personal information for targeted advertising or cross‑context behavioral advertising.

3.4 Following The Law And Protecting Playdate

We may access, preserve, and share information if we believe it is required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or audits, or if we believe it is reasonably necessary to protect users, our community, our rights, or the Service; to detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, security incidents, or other harmful activity; or to enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines.

3.5 Affiliate Sharing And Corporate Transactions

In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, insolvency, or similar transaction involving Playdate, information may be transferred, shared, or disclosed as part of that process, subject to applicable law and any required notices.

3.6 Social Sharing And External Tools

Playdate may give you the option to share links or content (for example, an event link) from the app using your device’s native sharing features. When you choose to share to another app or service, that third party receives the information you choose to send (such as a URL, message text, or image), and its use of that information is governed by the third party’s own terms and privacy policy. We do not control how those services handle your information, so we encourage you to review their policies and settings before sharing.

3.7 Other Situations

We may share de‑identified or aggregated information that does not identify you. We may also share information with your direction or consent as described at the time of collection or sharing.

4. Additional Details

Summary: Playdate is based in the United States, and information may be processed, transferred, and stored in the U.S. and other countries where our providers operate. We use technical and organizational measures to help protect personal information, but no system is perfectly secure. This Privacy Policy may be updated over time and does not apply to third‑party services or to how other users choose to handle information you share with them.

4.1 Transfer Of Information To The U.S. And Other Countries

Information about you may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries outside of where you live. These locations may have data‑protection laws that differ from the laws in your country and, in some cases, may provide a different level of protection. Where applicable, we use appropriate safeguards—such as Standard Contractual Clauses and technical and organizational measures—to help ensure that transfers of personal information are protected in line with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

4.2 Security

We use third‑party service providers for hosting, data storage, and application infrastructure. These providers process data on our behalf and follow industry‑standard security practices, including encryption in transit (such as TLS), access controls, and other technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. Access to personal information is limited to people and services that need it to operate, maintain, or improve Playdate, and who are subject to confidentiality obligations.

The app does not send operational logs or telemetry. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

If you use a password or passcode for your device or any Playdate‑related account, you are responsible for keeping it secure and confidential and for limiting access to your devices.

4.3 Data Retention

We retain information while your account is active and for a limited period afterward where we have an ongoing business need to do so—for example, to operate the Service, maintain records, comply with legal obligations, or resolve disputes. In particular, we may retain information in order to:

Examples include:

When we no longer have a legitimate business need to process personal information, we will delete it or take steps to de‑identify or aggregate it in accordance with applicable law, subject to any data that must be kept longer for legal, security, or operational reasons.

4.4 Policy Scope

This policy applies to the Playdate Service. It does not apply to third‑party services (e.g., Apple, Google, Google Places) or to information you share with other users. Those parties’ terms and privacy policies govern their handling of data, and we do not control how they process information.

Playdate may link to or integrate with third‑party services (for example, identity providers, mapping services, or communication tools). A portion of the experience may also be delivered through frames or embedded content controlled by third parties. Any information you provide directly to those services or that they collect as part of their integration is governed by their own privacy policies.

Hosts and other users may also collect, export, or process information they obtain through Playdate (for example, by downloading guest lists or copying contact details). Those parties are responsible for complying with their own legal obligations when handling that information, and you should review their practices if you have questions about how they use your data.

4.5 Revisions To This Policy

We will update the "Last updated" date when this policy changes. For material changes, we may provide additional notice in‑app (e.g., a banner in Settings → Legal) or via email if appropriate. Your continued use of Playdate after an update means you accept the revised policy.

4.6 Children

Playdate is not for users under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16, we will delete the account and associated information. For complete eligibility requirements, including the requirement that hosts must be 18+, see our Terms of Service, Section 2.1.

5. Your Choices

Summary: You can view and edit profile information in‑app, delete your account at any time, and manage device permissions and notifications in your device settings. The mobile app does not use web cookies.

5.1 Account Information

You can view and edit key profile information (such as your name, bio, images, and selected city) directly in the app. Keeping this information accurate and up to date helps us operate Playdate and improves how you appear to other users.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account. Account deletion is generally processed promptly after you confirm it and does not include a waiting period or hold window, so please be sure before you proceed. When you delete your account, we delete your account data and linked media from the Service, subject to the limited retention described in Section 4.3 (for example, minimal deletion metrics and backup copies kept for a limited period). Once deletion is complete, you will no longer be able to recover your account or content, and we will not send marketing communications to the deleted account.

5.2 Location Information

We do not collect your device’s precise location and do not run background location tracking. Instead, you choose whether to search for and select a place inside Playdate. When you do, we may store the selected place details with your profile or content as described in Section 1.2. You can always choose not to search for or attach a place if you would prefer not to share that information in the app.

5.3 Cookies

The Playdate mobile app does not use web cookies.

5.4 Permissions And Notifications

You can manage certain permissions and notifications at the device level. For example, if you previously granted Playdate access to your camera or photo library so that you can upload images, you can revoke that access at any time in your device settings; this may affect your ability to upload new media but will not delete media you have already uploaded.

You can also control whether and how Playdate sends you push notifications using your device’s notification settings. If you turn off notifications, you may still see in‑app messages or badges when you open Playdate, and we may still send legally required communications where permitted.

6. Data Rights

Summary: Depending on where you live, you may have data‑protection rights such as requesting access to, correction of, or deletion of your information; objecting to or restricting certain processing; requesting portability; withdrawing consent (where we rely on consent); and complaining to a data‑protection authority. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross‑context behavioral advertising, and we do not use third‑party advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs.

We respond to requests from individuals who wish to exercise their data‑protection rights in accordance with applicable law. In addition to the in‑app account deletion option (Settings → Delete Account) described in Section 5.1, you can contact us about your rights by emailing legal@playdate.events from the email address associated with your Playdate account or by clearly identifying your account in your request.

Where applicable (for example, in the EU/UK or California), your rights may include:

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights and choices under applicable law, although some features or functionality may change or become unavailable if you ask us to delete or restrict certain information needed to provide the Service.

For purposes of many data‑protection laws, Playdate acts as a controller of personal information processed in connection with the Service. Hosts, organizers, and other users may also act as controllers of information they export or otherwise process outside of Playdate (for example, if they download a guest list or copy contact details). If you have questions about how a host, business, or other user uses information you have shared with them, you should contact them directly.

7. California Privacy Rights

When you use Playdate, we collect and use the categories of information described in this policy. Under California law, this generally includes identifiers (such as name, email, and username), internet or other electronic network activity information (such as limited app and device diagnostics), and inferences used to personalize your experience within Playdate. We collect this information from you, your device, and our service providers, and use it for the purposes described in Sections 1 and 2 (for example, to provide and improve the Service, maintain security, and comply with law). We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not sell or share personal information for cross‑context behavioral advertising as defined by the CCPA/CPRA.

California residents may have the right to:

We may request information sufficient to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Authorized agent requests must include proof of authorization as required by law.
